FAMILIES, TRANSITIONS AND CULTURAL PLURALISM

The Training Apartment

AKIM-Jerusalem will bring information on helping persons with special needs to successfully move from their family homes into independent living arrangements. And to make the best use of available free time and continuing in chances for education.

Most people believe that people with disabilities are at higher risk than other people at failing to leave home.

This is not because they lack the personal potential but because there is not enough support.

The Training Apartment Program lets groups of 6 adolescents with disabilities partake in 15 meetings, once a week, from early afternoon until the next morning.

The program offers trainees an out-of-family-home living experience that concentrates on developing skills.

These skills include activities of daily living, skills for dealing with other people and their community.
